We are not very experienced in wine tasting, but this weekend we piled onto a minibus and ventured to several wineries located in Victorias Yarra Valley. The minivan took us and a few others through the rolling hills of the Valley and the first stop allowed us to taste many variations of white wines and some reds.
After tasting wines ranging from ‘chalky’ to sweet and berryesque at two adjacent wineries we headed to a third for lunch and a glass of wine at Killara Estate Cafe. There we tried some more wines whilst eating pizza, sourdough bread and an antipasto plate.
The weather was perfect for drinking copious amounts of wine (I’m pretty sure I was tipsy after the first stop) and viewing the gorgeous scenery.
The wine tour was taken by what I assume is a newly formed company – from the lack of online information available, The Wine Guys. The drivers were friendly and even though it was labelled as a comedy tour there were no cringe worthy dad jokes to be heard (well, only the usual dad-calls from Joe).
Some of the wines, especially the reds, were fantastic and it is worth visiting the wineries in the Yarra Valley region if road tripping past or even going on a similar tour. Most wineries offer walk-in tastings for a small fee. Lunch was light, tasty and well paired with sitting in the sun and sipping wines harvested from the vineyards in view. Perfection.
